Garry Tonon, leg lock & guillotine concept after Pittsburgh BJJ Seminar

Garry Tonon,is a student of Tom DeBlas (Ocean County BJJ ) and John Danaher. He competes for Team Renzo Gracie. He is one of the most exciting no-gi submission grappling atheletes on the competitive circuit today. He will compete in Metamoris this weekend November 22nd 2014, against another tough young competitor Zack Maxwell. Garry has visited us in Pittsburgh several times in years past and just did a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu seminar on Nov. 16th at Stout Training Pittsburgh – Team Renzo Gracie. He shared a concept with us that applies to both guillotine chokes and foot locks. The concept is to avoid letting your hands drift down toward your hips. Use the grip to keep your hands high throughout the technique in order to get a strong finish. Garry mentions the fact that often when people apply leg locks such as the one in the video below, the starts out in good position but as the transitions start to happen such as going belly down, the position deteriorates with the hands getting lower. Watch the video for more. By the way, Warren Stout ( Renzo Gracie Black Belt, competitor, and head instructor at the Pittsburgh Brazilian Jiu Jitsu School) and Garry are wearing the Metamoris walk out teeshirt.
