Self-Defense Course, Edge Weapons Overview by Craig Douglas
As a self professed “gun guy” I first sought out firearms training when I first started carrying a gun. I wanted to know what I was doing, and I take the responsibility of carrying a weapon very seriously. I found I deeply enjoyed the training, and soon found myself getting involved in more training and shooting competitions. A few of those early courses had some very serious discussions about the use of lethal force and the real world application of the skills we where learning but it was not until I began training with Craig Douglas (not yet retired from LE he was known then by his online pseudonym “southnarc”) that those topics where truly addressed.
Too often the gun owner and lawful concealed carry citizen sees the firearm as a magic talisman for self-defense. And too often the practicing martial artist does not train for or account for the realities of a come from behind surprise armed assault.
Craig’s self-defense based courses are not lecture, or theory, they are “live training”. With the use of role players, limited safety gear, and simulated weapons the often fast paced and ambiguous nature of real violent criminal assaults can be dived into.
In my years managing convenience stores in the city and living in rough parts of town I have experienced first hand what sudden aggressive attacks, robbery’s, and assaults where like. I found that Craigs courses navigated that subject with precision and it was at his suggestion that I first started training MMA.
